Harpist and Storyteller Patrick Ball returns with his new show

Come Dance with Me in Ireland - Pilgrimage to Yeats Country

A musical and dramatic performance based on the life and works of

William Butler Yeats.

Join Celtic harper and storyteller Patrick Ball for a harp-filled, dramatic performance based on the life and works of Ireland’s greatest poet, William Butler Yeats. Come Dance with Me In Ireland will be presented on March 3rd at the Anchorage Museum Auditorium at 7:30 pm  A second show will be presented at Vagabond Blues at 6 PM on March 4th. Tickets are $25.00 and available through Centertix.

In the spring of 2016, Patrick was awarded a Visiting Fellowship by the Moore Institute at the National University of Ireland, Galway to study the life and works of Ireland’s greatest poet, William Butler Yeats. Patrick spent a commendable amount of time in the Archives and Special Collections. But, if he was forced to be truthful, he would have to admit that he spent a great deal more time in the pubs of Galway and rambling around Yeats Country. He likes to think that this performance has the savor of all these influences.

A Nobel Prize winner, Yeats(1865–1939) was an Irish poet and one of the foremost figures of 20th century literature. A pillar of both the Irish and British literary establishments, he helped to found the Abbey Theatre, and in his later years served as an Irish Senator for two terms. Yeats was a driving force behind the Irish Literary Revival

Patrick tours extensively throughout Europe, the United States and Canada, is considered one of the premier Celtic harpers and storytellers in the world today, and has recorded nine instrumental and three spoken word albums which have sold well over one-half million copies collectively and earned national awards in both the music and spoken word categories.

ARCTIC SIREN’S CABARET RAISING FUNDS FOR FRIENDS of ALASKA CASA

Court Appointed Special Advocates

7:00 PM          FRIDAY, MAY 12TH, 2017           The Root Pub

The final show of Arctic Siren’s 11th season of Cabarets on May 12th will be a fund raiser for Friends of CASA. Featuring some of Anchorage’s finest singers, backed by the The LovinDog Kennel Club, the show will feature material with lyrics about home .  The all volunteer cast will include Peggy Monaghan, Jenny Baker, Steven Bacon, Janet Asaro, Lois Fedele, Erin Alexander Ingle and many more.

Friends of CASA is the non-profit partner of Alaska CASA.  Alaska CASA is a network of programs around the state that recruit, screen, train and support adults in the community to serve as court appointed special advocate (CASA) volunteers.  Alaska CASA speaks up for children who’ve been abused or neglected by empowering our community to volunteer as advocates for them in the child welfare system.

Alaska CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) believes every child who's been abused or neglected deserves to have a dedicated advocate speaking up for their best interest in court, at school and in our community. To accomplish this, we educate and empower diverse community volunteers who ensure each child's needs remain a priority in an over-burdened child welfare system. When the state or tribal government steps in to protect a child's safety because the people responsible for protecting them have not, a judge appoints a trained child advocate to make independent and informed recommendations and help the judge decide what's best for the child.

All performers are volunteering their time for this wonderful cause.  The Root (formerly Tap Root) is located at 3300 Spenard Road.  Show starts at 7:00.  Limited menu and bar service available throughout the evening.  Tickets are $20.00 and are available in advance at https://taprootalaska.com/?p=20152511  or at the door.  For ticketing information call 345-0282.  For more information about the show call 245-7311.
